The Gospel Coalition
History: The Gospel Coalition is a group of mostly pastors and churches that want the gospel of Christ crucified and resurrected to lie at the center of their preaching and teaching. The Coalition seeks unity through discussion among its members about all the issues pertaining to life, subjecting their understanding to the scriptures and the centrality of the gospel. Privately, they meet regularly to encourage each other in ministry, learn from one another, and pray for one another. Publicly, they produce and promote gospel-centered resources for the church in a variety of ways. Their aim is to encourage Christians to be "salt and light" in their communities, seeking to balance "love your neighbor as yourself" (and your enemies) without becoming too much like the world.
Place of Service: The Gospel Coalition offices are in Illinois, but its Leadership Council of 52 members is located all over the United States and Canada. Futhermore, The Gospel Coalition Network includes over 5000 members from 73 countries around the world. Its website consists of over 20,000 resources and averages over 4 million page views per month from an average of 50,000 individuals worldwide. Purpose and Vision: The Gospel Coalition is a fellowship of evangelical churches that want to renew their faith and reform their ministry practices, so that they are in line with our historic faith. The Coalition is against personal consumerism, the politicization of faith, and theological and moral relativism. The Coalition also wants to provide gospel advocacy, encouragement and education so that current and next-generation church leaders are better trained to lead. It is the Coalition's wish to unify all peoples into a "true coalition for Jesus".
The Coalition thinks a gospel-centered ministry will have: empowered corporate worship; evangelistic effectiveness; a counter-cultural community which means a community radically different from society around it; the integration of faith and work, and doing justice and mercy.
Prayer Requests:
- Pray that the Coalition would effectively guard the gospel and help churches that have strayed, return to the gospel as the foundation of their ministry.
- Pray for wisdom in the selection of new resources to include on the website.
- Pray that God would provide wisdom for the leadership.
- Pray that the Coalition would grow in the right ways, in the right areas, and for the right reasons.
